MiniUser76 wants to pimp his track bike. Frame re-sprayers locally (probably Argos) want about £125, but down the road is a place that powdercoats metal, all manner of colours.

I have no experience of the different finishes, anyone have any experience of powder coat finished bikes? Do they look alright?
I got a frame done recently, just plain white but it was a good finish. £30. Can't speak for what fancy finishes might look like or cost.

yeah ,,id b inclined to say powdercoat looks better (just a standard single colour )but you get more colours and detail with paint ,,im(was )a spraypainter and i think powder is the best finish

Yes Maggot, powder coated.
I asked the guy if it was ok to overlay transfers/decals and even lacquer it.
No problem.
It is very tough too. The first thing I did with it when I got back home was take it out of the boot and I promptly dropped the forks. Not a mark not even a hint of a scratch even though they bounced of the edge of the boot and onto some stone chippings.

As Jim said. if you want a real fancy finish then you are restricted with powder.

its the powder coat in the threads that are a nightmare ,,if you dont have old bb cups or anythingin the threads youl prob have to chase the threads or get the lbs to do it /fit the parts,,, make sure theres no blasting medium still left in the tubes before rebuilding ,,the blasters will blow it off sure but glass beads /sand /whatever in the bb or something is a thing to avoid obv ,,and it wont b like a hammerite gate lol,,,iv had a few things done and im constantly thinking its a good fin

The bloke who did mine said he would mask off the threads of the bottom bracket and also the bottle cage holes. I pointed out a couple of little threaded holes in the read dropouts which he masked. He also masked the head tube so it didn't get coated inside. Kind of important for when you come to refit the headset. Getting powder coat off is hard work I guess.

I say masked off but it was just some newspaper twisted round into a thick roll and twisted in. Very effective nonetheless.
