Sprained elbow

I've had a sprained upper lower arm/elbow for about a week from failing to unclip from my pedals in time after I missed a turn off (oops). Is it wise I ride on it? It's been unbearable to lift and I have to take 400mg ibuprofen + 1000mg paracetamol for the pain to go away. I really like going out on my bike and my arm seems to be getting better, but I was told to rest it by the doctors, something I don't really want to do. Could there be any major issues if I don't rest it?

Rest it. You don't want to make it worse. A week's rest or recovery from an acute injury that becomes chronic, needs surgery and months and months of rehab ;) .
Listen to the doctor, they are rather more expert than a bunch of cyclists on a forum ;)

I assume you have iced it for two or three days ? also compression with a decent elbow strap will help with recovery, keep as much load bearing on it as you can, if you are going to cycle, try and keep the weight on the opposite side, but rest is the obvious answer.

and I have to take 400mg ibuprofen + 1000mg paracetamol for the pain to go away.
Are you saying you take 1 x 400 Ibuprofen and 1000mg parecetamol at the same time ??
That sounds dangerous to me.
After an operation I had a blood clot with severe pain. Morphine didn't touch it. They tried parecetamol & Buscopan..........the relief was immediate. Might be worth a try.

Different types of drug, fine to take ibuprofen and paracetamol together as long as stick to the recommended doses
