Hi Guys,

Not been on here for long but was just wondering what you use for food/drink on rides?

I've been riding for a few years now and tried SIS, unflavoured maltodextrin, Powerbar, Maxim and High5 as well as just squash and a banana!

I tried SIS first and it was highly recommended to me but it sometimes didn't agree with my stomach. A mate of mine offered me some maltodextrin (he was a sport scientist) which is basically the main ingredient in most sports drinks but I never felt like it was giving me any extra energy!

Powerbar and Maxim seem to work well, especially the bars.

My personal favourite is High5. I've not had an upset tummy from it yet and I can really feel a difference when using it. I'm not really sure what to make of their research or their testing - they've made some bold claims though.

Is it worth spending the money on these products? What works best for you?

No, unless you are racing to win a big wad of cash.

ive used lots of different stuffs over the years and find them all handy lightweight alternatives to chips or a fritter roll and can of juice ,
in water bottle add some lemon juice it apparently stops liver overheating and fatigue seems to work ?

you can tell im not a sports scientist cant you lol

High5 4:1 works best for me on long rides, or during races. But i think its really a personal thing - you have to experiment with a few diferent ones and see which suits you best (but your post suggests you have been doing this already) xx(

Thanks for the replies. Theres a lot out there and I think its probably just a case of finding something that suits each individual.

Has anyone here tried those race faster guides from high5? I haven't yet but might do it a on a long ride soon to see if what they suggest makes a difference?
