I know there are plenty of discussions on nutrition etc, but can someone point me to a resource
where the sports drinks are explained. Terms like "electrolyte", "isotonic", etc etc are double-dutch to me.
Thanks.

Article on my blog explains my reasons for preferring electrolyte only drinks
The Secret Ingredient

basically....
  • Isotonic sports drinks contain similar concentrations of salt and sugar as in the human body.
  • Hypertonic sports drinks contain a higher concentration of salt and sugar than the human body.
  • Hypotonic sports drinks contain a lower concentration of salt and sugar than the human body
Where "salt" includes sodium, pottassium, magnesium etcLucazade sport and most drinks that are bought in a bottle are Isotonic
PSP 22, High 5 and other powdered drinks that are mostly maltodextrine, glucose polymers can be mixed to any strength and the makers recommend a Hypertonic solution. But then they would wouldn't they?
Nuun tablets only contain "salt" and a little flavouring and are hypotonic
