i usually join my chains without a split link, but am now considering change,

i like to carry one in case of emergency, and am thinking of removing my chain more often for cleaning.
there are 2 types basically
1 consists of 2 components each being a link and a pin.
2..the other being a link with 2 pins plus a link with no pins.

i am aware how to use each type, but some are re-usable, some are not, i believe type 1 above is re-usable and type 2 is not?

but why? the actual connection of them is the same ,ok. type 2 requires bending a little, but that shouldn.t make it unusable.

type 1 prices start at about £2.50 each, whereas type 2 can be bought for £7 a dozen.

chain is 7 speed btw.

Type 1 £3.99 for 3
Type 1 (SRAM, KMC, Wipperman/Connex) can be used to split the chain, for cleaning or whatever, and then used to rejoin the chain. You can also use them on the next chain provided that the pins don't show any sign of wear, although this isn't officially approved.
Type 2 (Taya) are officially single use. I think the problem is the the plate with the 2 pins can take a permanent bend if you struggle removing a dirty chain, and once there's a bend there's the possibility of the other plate popping off if the chain isn't under tension (on the bottom run).

Don't get this type - they are for single sprocket use only (fixed, hub gear etc)

the ones i ordered are rated in in speed sizes eg 6.7.8 speed. mine was a 7. i don't know why distinct as chains come in 6/7/8 size. ie. chain will fit either size.
