Have just taken the rotors off my Trek Hybrid to get at the wheel bearings. The splines were dry and showing a bit of white powder as if they have started corroding. Would a smear of bearing grease on the splines be ok when I reassemble it all tommorow or is there something specific to use for it?

Neednt of bothered as it turns out. Bearings cones and cups were all perfect despite about 5k commuting and touring miles in all weathers. Will replace the ball bearings anyway .

Just a touch of grease wont hurt but wash hands before handling the rotors

Good point about grease on rotors.

Off on the road bike to get the bearings. Need the Trek (and its 4 panniers) back on the road as we are rapidly running out of food.

I dont mind driving the car a 100 miles to the start of an Audax or CC social ride but driving round to Tescos isnt on.
