Spit or swallow?

Sorry for the title of this thread but was riding today and whilst cruising along a HUGE bug landed in my mouth...it was horrible (felt like an albatross but probably wasn't quite as big!!!). I immediately started to spit it out but the cyclist coming the other way shouted, 'You're disgusting mate'.
I did want to retort that I don't spit normally but he'd gone. When I got home was talking to a mate and he agreed with the other cyclist!
Is it me or do people just see it as a protein thing???

Spit it out. Make sure no one is behind you when you do though. It might have been chilling on a dog turd earlier and I would rather not swallow that shoot. ;-)

Definitely spit, I've swallowed a few bugs and it is not nice! I have also narrowly missed being spat on by a cyclist in front, look behind you!

Spit, Hawk Spit spit spit, glug swish hawk, spit, spit spit. quick pause to feel for movement in throat, then repeat. Finally glug glug and hard swallow to get any remaining debris down into the stomach acid ASAP!

Speaking as a distance runner as well as a cyclist, I've never mastered the knack of regurgitating flies, I find that one quick swallow and you're ready for the next one.

The thing you don't want to do is chew gum, then when you finally take it out of your mouth and see what's embedded in it ...

I spit them out if I don't start gagging and puking first. The guy coming the other way should consider himself lucky you only spit.

The guy coming the other way probably didn't realise you were trying to get rid of a fly. I hate seeing sportsmen constantly spitting and never do it myself UNLESS I'm trying to get rid of a fly.

I agree. He probably thought you were just acting like a footballer and spitting out phlegm you'd sucked up through your nose, which is pretty gross.
