Hey guys, im new to the forum and as you can probably tell by my name my main hobby is carp fishing however I have really been inspired to start riding over the last 3-4 months. Just wanted to ask a quick speedo question. Can the cold affect the performance of the speedo at all?? I dont know if the sencor on it is broke or what but its really not working good at the minute, in the past i have had to reajust the sencor to get it working but since the cold and snow has hit its way worse. I can get it to register but then when i start riding the speedo is all over the place in terms of speed, mostly saying im going at 3/8/9 mph then will go up to 15 mph then will go to zero. Very annoying.

Have you checked that the magnet on the spoke is close enough to the sensor upon every wheel revolution?

I reckon its the batteries.
All batteries deliver their power via a chemical reaction inside the battery that releases electrons. When the temperature drops, the chemical reactions happen more slowly and the battery cannot produce the same current that it can at room temperature.
If your speedo batteries were a little low in the first place, the temperatures we have experienced just lately could just have finished them off.

carp Are you using your lights more at the moment LED's tend to interfere like that or like said it could just be the battery and connections, sensors etc can be bad when roads are cold and dirty and need more checking.

Hey guys thanks for all of the replys, it has been mentioned about the batteries being affected by the cold, I got a new battery for it the other day and it was still giving me the same problems as soon as i got a reading from it, speed readings very irratic. Im hoping that it is the cold and not a fault with the speedometer as it was doing a good job before this issue. Do you guys think it will work better once the weather gets better??

Wet contacts on the back of the computer? Or on the bar mount? Remove computer and blow. Replace. Dirty contacts? Clean with a pencil rubber.
