Specialized wool socks - how much!!! You are joking right!

I have many cycling socks and also wool winter socks.

My last years specialized socks I think were about £8 per pair. But now the heal is wearing thin. So need some new merino wool socks.

Wanted some more specialized wool sock. Went into local specialized concept store to have a look.

I was surprised to find they had loads of the socks left in all sizes. They are now grey and a bit thicker than last years. Look like a good winter sock so I was going to pick up 2 pairs.

Well that was until I turned the tag over and looked at the price.

£20 yes I said TWENTY pounds for ONE pair of socks.

I don't mind paying more for a good quality product but £20 that is just ridiculous. I even spoke to the assistant to check and yes they are £20.

I even said to him that was ridiculous. No wonder they have loads left. Not many are buying them.

I've seen socks for £45 a pair.

I bought 3 pairs of ski socks from sports direct for £4 and they're awesome

Don't buy them. They don't owe you anything, they can charge whatever they choose to. I don't understand why anyone would get so upset because a company decides to make more than 10p profit on their product if they can. They don't have a monopoly, other products are available.

If Spesh were struggling then they would be charging less for things like this.

Now, not that I would suggest buying online rather than LBS  but if you Google 'Specialized wool socks', prices lower than £20 come up from a number of sellers

At full price Evans have them for £10 a pair, surely some EPOS error by the Concept Store??

These are not the £20 ones. These are the cheaper trainer ones, they are a lot thinner than the grey winter wool socks. They had these along side the winter ones in the shop for £10. The £10 only have around 20% wool where as the £20 ones are 100% wool.

I did not buy them and I was not upset. I don't I mentioned anywhere that I was upset. So how much profit are Specialized making on these socks then as you seem to know.

A lot of the winter stock on the shelves were going but these socks were all there.

Not often that Rapha is cheaper than Specialized - £15 for a pair. In winter, as my feet are typically inside overshoes, I use a range of old thicker socks.

On-one are currently doing their own merino wool socks on special offer - a three pack of "thicky" socks for a tenner. They're good - nice and warm. Perhaps not quite as warm as my woolie boolie socks but still good for the price.

Brands with catchet can often charge more because you not only pay for the product but also the badge. Specialised are one such brand.

Besides £20 is not that expensive - I've seen worse in fancy shops. I'm quite happy with my Aldi thermal socks @ £2.99 each.
