Specialized Tarmac 54cm SRAM Red

Hello all,

I am looking for some buying advice. I found this bike on Craigslist:

I talked the guy down to $1500. The bike originally came with SRAM Apex and the owner upgraded all of the components to SRAM Red, done by a local bike shop.

What do you think it's worth?

So what's that in £'ss ?? Nice looking bike I've used SRAM Red nice group set. That's a fair bit of bike for the money id be asking the usual receipts proof of ownership etc I'd say as he is giving away pedals cleats helmet etc maybe he is just giving up ? Always best to check though you don't wanna buy a shifty bike. I'd be surprised if you got more than £1200-£1300 for it in the UK not sure what that converts to in $ though ?

Guy comes on for advice, one of you claims idiocy over knowledge of the exchange rate (it's on Google) and the other says something is worth what someone will pay. Jeez - good advice peeps!

I think it boils down to what state the bike is in assuming it ain't stolen... maybe go and have a look, do what you'd do if you were buying new, ask lots of questions, ask if you can take pictures, ask if you can have a think. $1500 isn't nothing in anyone's money. Look for damage on the frame. Etc. Etc. Anyone else feel free to offer meaningful further advice.

Then people can maybe help with whether it's worth the price. Forget the economology above about willingness to pay. You're obviously willing to pay in the area of the amount or you wouldn't be asking. We *could* help swing it up or down a bit if you find out more though

Can you just clarify what you've added there as I'm struggling tbh ? He asked what it was worth the seller has already knocked $500 of the asking price. What is the average price of an SL4 Tarmac in the States these days ? Was it overpriced to start with as a $500 reduction seems pretty steep to me. Personally I wouldn't pay more than £1000 sterling (sorry I don't do € yet as I'm purely Brexit). any more info I'm happy to help. Nice bike though if you can get it at your desired price it's win win.

A full sram red groupset is close to a £1000 to start with.......

I would go look at the bike and then make a decision based on what i saw

£1000 new - the one on the bike looks to be 2010/2011 (judging by the crank arms.

You'll manage to pick up a new tarmac with 5800 105 for less than £1400.

I had it on my SL3 Tarmac 3 years ago I think now and the bloke I bought it off had it for 2 years. lovely group set but second hand not worth a lot (but then a lot of that sort of stuff people seem to want for peanuts).
