Hi,
I'm about to sign up to my employer's bike to work scheme. We are restricted to Halfords, but as they seem to be able to order stuff in I don't HAVE to go with what they stock.
Having read a few posts on here, I am interested in a Sirrus Sport. However, if there are problems with Halfords being able to order one (there's bound to be!), I have my eye on their Carrera Gryphon as an alternative. Does anybody have one of these, and if so, is it any good? Are Carrera a respectable brand of bike? I don't know much about bikes generally!
I started commuting to work 3 days a week a couple of months ago on my old Saracen mountain bike which has big fat chunky tyres. I absolutely love doing it, but I hate the heavy bike! The majority of my 14 mile round trip commute is on Marriot's Way (a cycle route near Norwich), which is fine gravel in places but also tarmac. Then it's biking through the roads in Norwich. So I'm thinking a hybrid/road bike is best. I'm too scared to jump straight into dropped handle bars - I had a go on a 'racer' bike (as I called them when I was a child) many years ago and I hated it! So I'd prefer flat handle bars.
If anyone can help with the Sirrus v Gryphon dilema, please do! Or if anyone has any alternative suggestions (budget of £400 max), then fire away. Also, if anyone knows of any other bike shops in Norfolk who may stock the Specialized Sirrus (or other decent alternatives to the Carrera) so I can try before buying, please tell me!
Many thanks.
