Ive been tryin to decide what type of bike I need. between cyclo cross or hybrid and have decided I'm defintely gonna go for the Specialized Crosstrail Comp.

My lbs has some 2010 models on sale at £599 http://www.bikescene.co.uk/Specialized-Crosstrail-Comp-558-34-1.html
and 2011 are £649 http://www.bikescene.co.uk/Specialized-Crosstrail-Comp-Disc-1959-34-1.html

Please can someone take a look at the specs on both bikes and offer some advice as to which one I should go for.

The obvious difference is that the new model has hydraulic brakes. Regardless of performance, does the simple fact that they are hydraulic over mechanical, make the £50 saving on the older model not worth bothering with?

Cheers, Ed.

I would definately spend the extra £50 and have the hydraulic disc brakes ...

Yeah thanks, will do. It's just that the salesman was pushing last years model. He told me there was nothing to choose, specs wise, between the two and he never mentioned the brakes being different. I did have a little test ride but they only had the basic Crosstail available, that didn't have disc brakes.

I don't have a clue about the specs, so rely on the forums. It was only when I looked online later that I realised about the brakes.

Anyway. Mind made up now.

Thanks.

Another point is that the 2011 version, in my opinion, is a far better looking bike. From these pictures at least. If only I didnt already have 3 bikes...

Ok, so, the above is entirely subjective. My point really is:- which one do YOU like? I'm lucky enough to love riding both of my "proper" bikes. Sure, there are better specced bkes out there, but I love what I have. My advice is go with your gut.

Yeah you're right about the spec thing. It's actually abit annoying how many models of the same bike there are, tempting you to spend just that little bit more.

So I'll go with my gut and hopefully...... my gut will go with the bike.

I agree ...

the salesman will want to get rid of last years models with the least amount of discount he can get away with, he has a whole year to sell the 2011 model ... get the Hydro's

Definitely getting the Spesh has now changed to maybe the Spesh or maybe the Giant Roam XR2,http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-gb/bikes/model/roam.xr.2/4883/39038/ any thoughts on this? Can't find much in the way of reviews on it and lbs is out of stock, so gonna be a couple of weeks before I can try one.

Thanks.

Another great looking bike! Again though, It's down to which one you like most though. Ride them both and see how you feel? Although completely different bikes, I have a Spesh MTB and a Giant road bike and love them both...
