Hi guys,

so I sold my car this week and went out and bought an entry level road bike! i bought the specialized Allez. been on it this afternoon was brilliant! just a few questions!? Just wondering if anyone else has got one of these? if they like it etc?? Also my hands are hurting is this just due to the fact that I have never been on a road bike before? The bike also seems quite loud compared to my old MTB i.e the chain? sorry I know proper amateur! Any advice etc much appreciated.

Cheers

Plenty on here have the Allez, it's a good solid bike and often recommended for beginners.

The position on a road bike is a lot different to MTB, so some aches and pains are not unusual at first as you get used to it and also fine-tune the setup. Getting the position right is much more important than it is on MTB.

I've got the specialized allez and love riding it. My hands did hurt initially. A cycle fit made a big difference to my comfort. (The bike was a bit big for me really) The other thing that made a massive difference was changing the wheels. It made for a lot less road buzz and made my average speed a little faster.

I had an allez for 7 years and only decommissioned it this year. One of the best bikes I ever had. I like the shape of the newer ones better eight the curved top tube but I don't like the gear ratios however that can be easily changed.

My Allez has served me nicely for 5 years or more now. It has only been retired from winter and wet-weather commuting duties recently (a few months ago).
But be careful with it. Before long you will be tempted to partake on social rides, then 50mile sportives, audaxes, and then up to 100 miles and 200km. Before you know it you will be saying such things as:
"I'll just go out on a quick 30-mile ride", or "I'll take a detour on the way home. Be about 3 hours later than usual", or "Yes, 100 miles sounds like a good fun ride. Won't be too difficult."

Ah, the classic 'it's just something I do occasionally, I can total stop whenever I want'

If we had C2w in the US,(primitive place that it is) I would so be riding one of those. A fellow at work has one, and he even rode it yesterday. Yesterday, it was -14c, I might add, in the morning.
