I have just bought a 2010 crosstrail hybrid as a backup bike for my kona. Being a sit up hybrid I want to setup the bike similar to my kona, which means lowering the handlebars and moving them further forward from the saddle. There appears to be three rings showing which maybe spacer rings that can be removed ? . I can move the seat backwards if necessary. Any help please.

You cannot remove the rings without cutting down the steerer on the fork, you can however move them from underneath the stem to above the stem in order to lower the handlebars. Be easier to swap the stem for a longer one with a shallower angle though.

^ agree. Don't cut the steerer, just move the spacers from under to above the stem, then you can move them back if you don't like it.

If the saddle is already comfortable for riding leave it where it is. The rear should be adjusted with a longer stem.
