Thanks to those who replied to an earlier thread I purchased some Specialized trail shoes which have seen plenty of good service.

What I would like to do soon is put SPD pedals on my hybrid bike (which does the occasional run up and down the Grand Union Canal's towpath) and wondered if anyone can recommend a decent, not too expensive (£75 or under if possibile) SPD trail shoes that can stand up to a little bit of walking (to and from the pub!) ?

Thanks, Greg and Mort. Those Tahoes are the ones I own already. Very good too, apart from my pedals chewing up the sole quite a bit Which is why I was thinking of ones with recessed SPD cleats as I want to change those sharp pedals - Shimano M530 seem to fit the bill. So - looking my usual dim self here - you reckon those Tahoes would be compatible with M530 pedals?

Right, chaps. I ventured onto the Evans site and looked at the Q&A on SPD compatibility. It appears the Tahoe shoe IS SPD-compatible.

And so for the next "senior" moment. My shoes have a rubber outsole all over, including where the cleat would be located.

Now, given my world-class reputation for ham-fistedness, rank stupidity when it comes to my bike and its bits, not to mention breaking things, is the rubber bit over the clear just a cover that can be removed? If so, I'm in business. And if so how can I remove said rubber bit without incident or injury?

That's what I am trying to describe. That bit with the Spesh logo: is that removable or will it just adhere to the SPD pedal?
