SPD SL Cleat QUESTION

I have a new pair of Shimano R107 shoes with Shimano cleats, when i had a go at setting them up after reading all the stuff on the internet, i market as close as i could get, the center of the inside ball of the foot, when i tried to align the center of the crank shaft mark on the cleat to the mark on my shoe i does not anywhere near it, with the cleat as far forward as it can go the center cleat mark is at the front edge of the crank shaft, roughly about a cm, is there something wrong with the positioning of the holes on the shoe where the cleat attaches to or is there something wrong that im doing.

I suspect you are over-complcating things. There is not a huge amount of variation in fitting the things, and in my experience, getting them straight is the key issue. I suggest you screw them on, try them out and see how it goes. Just make sure they are tight when you use them.
