I’m after the rubber bits that are fitted to new shoes that you pull off to put in cleats. I have shoes with Spd cleats but arthritis so need to take off the cleats and make the shoes back to flats. I can glue the rubber bits in.

You can't - you'll have to bodge something.

If the problem is strain on your knees when twisting your feet to unclip, try reducing the release tensions on the pedals. You can make it very low. Just make sure to do both sides of both pedals or you could get a nasty surprise - I made that mistake once and got my foot stuck!

The arthritis is in my ankle and Sod’s Law the worst on is the one I always unclip to put my foot down the other stays on the pedal. I have tried unclipping the other one instead I had so many clipless falls it’s unbelievable. I do wear them on a recumbent trike for safety reasons to stop leg suck, also the only time I need to unclip is when I get off the trike.

Would multi release cleats be an option? https://road.cc/content/feature/clipless-pedals-how-multi-release-cleats-make-them-easy-182513
