Hello,
i am relatively new to SPD pedals and would welcome a bit of advice in case of set up. When i disengage i always can only do this by twisting my heel inwards towards the wheel which can be a bit alarming if riding fast. I have tried to twist away from the wheel but this does not work.
Yes the pedals are the right way round.
So wondering if there is a configuration that needs to be adjusted?

thanks

If you think about it, twisting the heel in towards the wheel has a huge potential for owchies. Always twist out, away from the bike.

Have you angled the cleats correctly for you? Most of us don't have straight feet and the advice is to always sit on something and let your feet dangle and see which way they point and then set cleats to reflect this pointing on the bike. Doing that means you should have no problem twisting your heel out to disengage.

The pedals def disengage by twisting heel out the way , they must b on wrong (I don't think that's possible ) I'd wager u have tension too tight and just aren't twisting hard enough

Sounds like you might be trying to disengage at the top of the pedal stroke rather than the bottom. Much easier to twist out if your foot is at 6 oclock, not 12. At 12, the natural tendency is to twist inwards. Give it a try.

Are the pedals on a loose tension? What type of cleats? If SPD, you could try SH56, you can lift your foot out as well as twisting

I've stopped using clipless now, but when I was I could never master twisting out to disengage, I always twisted in, trying to twist out usually just resulted in a huge wobble.
