OK, question.

Just received some Shimano pedals (M520) to get fitted to the road bike. Now, in preparation, I got some Wellgo pedals fitted to the hybrid (flat on one side, clip in the other) and the LBS fitted the cleats to my new shoes.

Are there different types of SPD cleats, do I need specific Shimano ones (the pedal packaging suggests so) or are there OEM ones and also aftermarket? I.e. any will do?

These are the pedals. http://www.highonbikes.com/wellgo-wpd-m17c-clipless-spd-mtb-touring-bike-pedals.html

It looks like they take Shimano compatible cleats (SH51 hopefully, which is what are needed for the Shimanos?)

Cheers

Hi Vickster, these are the cleats for your M520 pedals.

There are two types of Shimano cleats - and the Welgo ones are different! The usual Shimano are the road use type, which will only unclip with a twisting action. I use the other type, labelled 'M' for multi release, which will pull out in any direction, much more convenient for sudden stops in traffic!

I have to twist mine to release. I'll ask the lbs to confirm. Might be simpler to send the shimano ones back and get dual sided wellgo pedals
