Spartan wheelers

There is a really nice gentleman on my ward, who used to do ten miles in 22 to 23 minutes, he was a member of the spartan wheelers years ago I believe anyone know this club here?

My father was in the Barrow (in Furness) Spartan Wheelers, they closed down during WW2.

It was round this area I think, he was telling me how he cycled from middleton st george to faverdale in 17 minutes, was never of his bike with club runs ect, very interesting and nice bloke in his nineties.

Looking through some old RTTC handbooks, it seems quite a few towns had a xxx Spartan Wheelers or CC.

I have just started reading ....one more kilometer and were in the showers.

This gives a pretty comprehensive roundup of british cycling since the word 'go'
Spartans may well be included in ite lists of clubs and their origins.

However im finding the book tough going so i may never finish it to give you an answer.
