Sorry, yet another GPS question but I think this thing's new....

I'd be interested to know how the routing works, OS maps have previously not been made available with routing information on them, they are essentially images.

Actually quite a simple concept - If you use a "basemap" that is routable to plan the route and then display it over the OS data image.

Yes, but that implies it's not possible to plan a route on the device itself?

My Garmin has a number of maps available and the route transfers between the maps. The same is possible on any device. Plot on OSM map for instance, save and then display on the OS map

What happens on the Garmin Edge 705 is that when you drop a route onto it is that the Edge calculates the route between the waypoints in the file that you put on it. That's why you have to wait a few seconds for the Edge to display the route.

Sorry all, knew I should've searched

So it's essentially untried then really.
I'll try and see one in the flesh but I must admit an internal battery is a big minus point for me.

Me too, though this might help keep it charged over long distances

Thanks for that, I must admit I'd rather just carry AA's though. Even if it all goes wrong at least you can grab spares pretty much anywhere.

I think I'm pretty much decided on the satmap. The map prices are hard to swallow but I'll have a look at what fleabay can offer

I,ve spent lots of hours shopping around for satmap accessories and finished up buying new from amazon for less than some second hand items were going for on e-bay! buy carefully!

I'll bear that in mind, thank you

It does often seem to be the case with specialist kit that the main retailers are cheaper.
Handy to know that it's the same with Satmap bits
