During my 45 mile ride today, I was in quite a bit of pain. Despite wearing padded gloves, my hands and wrists were very sore but only if I was riding on the hoods, fine anywhere else. My neck was also sore from having to look up all the time (riding position). I don't particularly want to experience this again, is there anything I can do to change it so that these things don't happen? :B)

I managed to bare it for 2 and a half hours, I'm putting the wrists down to the crap road surfaces but the neck is something that I don't want happening every ride:rolleyes:

Try raising your bars a bit, or if that's not an option maybe flipping your stem will give you a more upright position.

Also check your seats level. If it's nose down it could be contributing to the extra pressure going to your hands.

No guarantees with either, but they are logical place to start IMO

It's a new bike, new riding position, really man it out for a while to see if it gets better. If it doesnt, then it is likely to be the fit/setup. Regardless of the set up, there most likely will be some aches and pains when 1st starting to ride a road bike.

Head down, arse up, your neck is going to ache! That's life! You need to get used to it.

Isn't your bike too big - did you get a shorter stem yet?

Nope, not sure which one to get yet - maybe someone on here will do a swap with me.

I've had the bike for 3 weeks now and I've been out on it a lot, this is the first time that I've been sore.

Sounds like you are stretched out too much putting to much weight on your wrists. As others have said, try getting a shorter stem.

Probably because its the longest you have spent on it, or because you rode harder than before and got tired and your posture suffered!

Shorter stem then? Is there any way to know which size to get?
