The last few rides I've had under my left toes and the ball of my foot is sore, flat pedals and not clipless. What could it be, today l had on running shoes one size above my normal shoe size

I sometimes get this problem and its my left foot also (toes not ball) and Ive put it down to my left trainer being too tight. Last December I broke my ankle and after it had healed the bottom of my left leg is now thicker than the bottom of my right leg. It is after this time that the problems with my toes started.

I was using one size up shoes so probably not that although it is warm and that swells feet. Thanks for the reply.

It could be the weather. I get 'hot spots' in my cycling shoes. Was forced to stop twice on a 60 miler yesterday, remove the shoe for a minute and its good for another hour or so but wow its hurts/ burns. Have also had the same on tour.

Im looking at getting some cycling specific socks, I dont know if these will help.

I do but I do most of my commute miles around central London and not sure if it would be a good idea as I am accident prone.

I meant that your toe might be stumping on the end of the toe cage or the cage placing your foot in an uncomfortable position on the pedal or something.

As for bendy non-cycling specific shoes, something I notice when riding in trainers etc (only ever do it for maybe a mile from a station to race HQ) is that I sort of curl my toes as if "grabbing" the pedal to maintain grip, lol. Maybe you do too? That could become quite uncomfortable after time time!

I get this too. I have specific cycling socks and so far, it still happens. I am going to try some Merino wool ones to see if that helps.
