Sora shifters - small hands

The missus is having some trouble braking with her Sora shifters as they are too far away from the bars, I know about the screw to push the lever forward/backwards but is there some kind of blank which can be inserted into the gap to stop her ripping gloves when the gap is there and they get caught or are there any other shifters I can put on for her which take this problem away.
