Brand New Giant Defy 2. Left (Front) shifter doesn't work. Lever doesn't move the cable at all and clicker is frozen. It's a Sora. Any ideas?

Thanks I have informed the seller and am awaiting their response.

"wire in the casing has pulled through the ferrule perhaps?" - What does that mean. It feels as thougyh the wire is not connected to the shifter as when I move the brake sideways the wire does not move at all. Is it easy to take the casing off the shifter and check the connection?

It's all a bit tricky as the seller is Winstanleys who are not known for their fair and prompt aftercare service,

Did you know this before you ordered it?
Sometimes a bargain isn't always the best option.

If its a double/compact and you shift it to the top it feels frozen trying to downshift back to the "middle". This happened to me as I was riding home from collecting my newest bike. Rode back to Evans (uphill )in high gears to be told that the shifter is for a triple and you just need a firmer push on the button to move it down. Unnerving at first as it feels like the button will shear off but you get the hang of it. The third position can be used as a trim for the highest gears where the chain rubs the front D.

Seems fixed! Took it round to a friends house with more sense than me and he loosened the cable and fiddled a bit and it works OK. I'm a numpty.

The left Sora shifter has a double click. Anyone know if the tension can be adjusted so that most changes can be achieved with just one click?

I havent used Sora, but with Tiagra and above the "Double click" is a trim feature.

So when the chain is at either extreme end of the cassette the front derailiur can be trimmed not to rub.

Or something like that.
