Anybody found a way of adjusting reach on these old things?

No visible adjustment screws / allen bolts like on later stuff.

My small hands are struggling to get good purchase!!

I guess this might be referring to later models?

@Chislenko I believe the older flight deck versions used shims rather than an adjustable Allen bolt to shorten the reach.

https://www.tradeinn.com/bikeinn/en...V0-7tCh1_ZwgKEAQYASABEgJk2PD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds like these but model specific.

I think bikingdad, inadvertently you have hit on a plan!!

If I craft something to go in the female part of the shifter it will stop the male part going in as far thus bringing the lever closer.

Then it it a simple job of adjusting the brakes at the calipers. My only reservation will be the hood cover won't stretch over the small void that will be left, but I feel sure we will get round that.

Or alternatively lengthen the male bit somehow.

Just fit some crosslevers ;)
Works for me on all my road bikes

I've still got to change gear though vickster!

Absolutely no problem going down the block as it is that old design with the thumb click type thingy, but going up the lever is still a long way away.

I am now off to try and craft / bodge a piece of something suitable into the female receiver part of the shifter, I may be gone a while as that chap once said!

I’m going to be putting an Ultegra 10 speed triple groupset up for sale later in the week ;)

This bike is only 8 speed vickster and it's only my winter bike so certainly not deserving of Ultegra, although 30 gears does sound like fun!

I have bunged some self adhesive felt I had knocking about in the female section so the lever does not go as far in. Has brought the lever back about 8mm. Only done the left one for now, see how it goes on next ride and also as this is a frankenbike the brifter is different on the other side and will require a different solution!!

Yes I do now have a small gap where the hood cover does not come far enough.

To be honest after this winter I was thinking of converting it back to flat bar anyway (which it has been in its time) we will see how it goes!
