Sora 8 speed shifters

My son is having trouble finding anyone with stocks. The old ones have been discontinued apparently and there is a problem with the new replacements. Does anyone know if it's possible to get hold of some?

The new ones won't be available until the end of March and are going to cost £195!!!!
So much for an entry level component. His bike only cost twicw that so it's almost a write-off!

I would consider changing your bike shop. £195 for Sora Shifters is a complete rip off. You can buy the full 9 speed group set for less than that

I put them on my bike (8sp) just a few months back they were sub £100 from the Ed Co Op.

The point is that the old Sora shifters are now discontinued and the new ones have a problem and won't become available until late March. Shimano have massively raised their prices and the new ones will retail at £195. I presume that Tiagra, 105 will also increase in price. Between us, my son and I have phoned 18 shops.

Ed Coop have found a pair without a box in their Leeds store which they're going to send back to Edinburgh and hopefully post on to me.

If that doesn't work out, you can use Campag 10-speed shifters, which (by luck, not design) just happen to pull exactly the right amount of cable for an otherwise Shimano 8-speed geartrain.

They don't have cables sticking out of the sides, which might be an advantage; and they are surprisingly cheap.

As far as I can see, yes. "Shimergo" is reported to work perfectly. But I haven't done it myself!
