My daughter came off first and my son crashed into her.

Approaching Stillington, North Yorkshire from Marton-in-the-Forest. They were coming down a hill at the bottom of which is a left hand bend which had a gravel ridge in the centre of the carriageway extending out from the kerb - Bingo!

Informed North Yorkshire CC, Roads, Highways & Pavements Department sending them photos. They said they will get back to me within 20 working days!

Really sorry to hear about the accident, I wouldn't expect to hear much from the council though. The position of the gravel is unfortunate (i.e., towards the apex of the corner), but they'll probably say it's up to the rider to spot/avoid hazards.

Were there any loose surface signs before the bend?

Hope they're OK. I would've thought the council should treat this as a hazard just like pot holes now it has been pointed out to them. I googled quickly and couldn't find anything however so maybe the onus is solely on road users being vigilant.

Hello All & thanks for your comments.

No serious injuries - gravel rash & some rainbow coloured bruising.

There are no warning signs even now so it's still a potenetial hazard, especially for two wheeled transport.

Yes, it's likely that the recent heavy downpours of rain have washed the gravel into the main part of the road.

With everything that CCers do on CC I too felt compelled to do my civic duty and inform the appropriate authorities. NYCC keep telling us that we are the largest county in England and one of the most rural - perhaps implying that any road repairs will not be imminent.

Happy cycling everyone & watch the blind bends.
