It's a damn site worse, certainly in the last 10 years. Been hit far too many times and been threatened.

Even this weekend, 20 glorious miles off road, literally just at the end of my street turning into our road, a driver overtakes me on the wrong side, I'm in the middle of the road, indicating right, driver tears past my outstretched arm. Good job I could hear him. Idiot was on his phone - held out in front of him. At least they didn't have drivers on phones.

More depressingly, Cycling Weekly couldn't work out the names of the 3 reporters on this piece of ancient history... I've got Bob Wellings and Mike Neville, but am stuck on the other, and it's driving me nuts

When people bang on about how standards of driving have fallen I always think 'No they were always this bad' at least less of them are pished these days.
But..... Back in the day, pished drivers used to drive very carefully (on the whole) because they realised that if they made a wrong move there was a chance that there might be a Police car or beat officer in the vicinity to witness it and pull them over for a chat, resulting in their pished state being rumbled.

Fast forward 30 years and no-one gives a feck about anything because the chances of getting caught are so slim as to be negligible. I've noticed too that drink driving is becoming more common, the difference now is that the careful factor has disappeared.

Possibly, one thing I have noticed is that pub car parks are not full these days like they used to be though.

The smoking ban and cheap supermarket grog have walloped pubs. If there aren't so many cars in their car parks I'd reckon it's because they don't have so many punters.

Everybody who cycles will nowadays be familiar with the smell of cannabis wafting out of the windows of economy hatches as they blast past, usually in the evenings. Likewise, as @Brandane writes above, I'm sure drink driving is increasing in rural areas alongside the general deterioration in standards and manners as the fear of a random stop disappears.

So true - I'm continually amazed by the amount I smell, both from cars and houses and gardens.

Actually, he could probably outrun that Swedish Meatball, unless the owner could push it faster than he could pedal

Totally not sure what they'd think now with some of Chelsea tractors driving about. Not been riding long but already had 2 drive head on at me and that was on a road wide enough for two side by side.
