Hello all, been back on 2 wheels for a couple of months on 15 mile roundtrip to work, just some questions :-

What is the point of a q/r seatpost ? apart from making it easy to steal ?

My Giant Sedona has two bosses on rear forks but I don't know what they are for as they face forwards, understand if facing outwards would be for rack mount but cannot see why they are there.

Can the aforementioned seatpost clamp be replaced with a bolted one ?

Ditto q/r wheel spindles

I am wary about leaving bike for long periods with q/r components, understand I can lock through the wheels and take saddle with me but don't really want to bother.

Thanks

Graham

You can replace the QR components with bolt on ones although you will need to carry a tool for your wheel to allow puncture repair. Road bikes do not have QR seat clamps and I think it is allow the MTB rider to adjust his saddle height for different types of riding. With regard to wheel QR, these allow rapid wheel changing / puncture repair etc.

I cannot comment on the bosses.

Thanks, a trip to the LBS then to sort the wheels out, I can afford time to make puncture repair.
The seatpost q/r clamp looks integral to the suspension post however.
