Hi,

I am brand new to the forum, looking forward to learning from you guys and having a laugh.

I have spent he last fourteen years in the Army predominantly as a runner. Cycling never really intrested me that much apart fom on adventure training etc. A few years ago I smashed up my left knee playing Rugby and over time it has finally given in to years of tabbing, running and abuse. resulting in an Arthroscopy and a Medial Meniscous resection. Basically they have removed all the bad catiledge from the knee.

The operation has been a sucess so far, (operated on tuesday) I was walking the same day and it feels so much better than before the op.

Anway, I don't want to fall into the trap of not doing any phys for the forseable and turn into a fat wheezy-boy with a letter from matron, so my fantastic wife has bought me a Specialized Hardrock 2011 sportdisk. Not the best bike in the world but will be more than adeqaute for my needs.

Any of you guys had the same op and can reccomend how soon I can start smashing out the miles? I have a physio appointment on Friday but I need to do something, sitting on the couch and walking to the fridge and the toilet is not cutting it.

Anyway, thanks for reading my tale of woe, but any info from others that have had the same op would be mega.

Cheers guys catch you around.

Paul

Welcome the forum! Hope you enjoy being around us and get something out of your time here.

It might be worth saying hello here

I'm not sure I have anything else useful to say...

Hello. I have had a couple of scopes, lateral menisectomy and tidy up first time, another wash out and tidy up second time around 9 months later. After the first scope, I was on the static bike after about 6 weeks I think and then another 6 weeks to the road

Second time, static bike after 2 weeks, then on road after another 4 weeks.

I'd say 6-8 weeks is realistic to 'real' biking (static first) but it very much depends on your ROM - you need pretty much full to turn pedals comfortably, physio will give you more idea. I assume you have controlled swelling, are doing all your pt exercises diligently and not using crutches (I used these for around 4 weeks on and off after the meniscus, barely at all second time)?

I have ongoing knee issues but can cycle for around an hour at the mo (5 months post)

Good luck

Cheers guys.

Seeing it sit there and not able to ride it is akin to leaving a juicy steak just outside a Tigers cage. It is snapping me.

I know how you feel Paul. As a fellow rugby player I had to stop playing because I'm joining the Ta. Hope you find the love for cycling like I have

Cheers Vicster,

Binned the crutches on day one, and stopped taking the Kapake tablets yesterday as I have no real pain, apart from these bloody stitches. It feels like I have been smashed by a hundred Mosquitos!

I seem to have full movement of the knee also, quite suprised at how little pain there is. But, I don't want to push it and destroy the good work the surgeon has done. I suppose another week veging on the sofa will be ok.

I'm not. But all my mates are, instead of joining the army I went to college and work (big mistake) and because of home commitments I can now only go part time . Still at least it's something
