Solving the Heart Rate Monitor Puzzle

I do a fair amount of road cycling and have a Garmin Edge 1000, and I do lots of spinning sessions in the winter on a Keiser M3. I'd like to find a heart rate monitor to connect to both. I understand that the Keiser bikes only handle Gymlink 5kHz which I think is by Polar (not 100% certain about this).

Ideally, I was hoping to use a wrist version like one of the Mio ones that don't need a chest strap. However, I don't think that these do Gymlink. So, I then spoke to Polar and they tell me that they only do Polar Loop and Gymlink, but that I should talk to Garmin as they do ANT+ to talk to the Edge 1000 and Gymlink to talk to the Keiser....on ringing Garmin, I was told that their straps only do ANT+ and not Gymlink...

So, having thought that getting an HRM would be an easy thing to pick, it seems that it is riddled with a lack of inter-operability.

Anyone have experience/advice to offer? Is there a wrist-based device that can talk to both the Keiser and Edge and doesn't use a chest band? If not, is there a chest band that can do it?

Thanks

You might be better off posting this in 'Training and nutrition '.

I don't know what Gymlink and Keiser M3 are. But I do know that Polar and Garmin aren't compatible. As you already have an expensive Garmin device I'd get a relatively cheap Garmin chest HRM.
