Yes, it's a front light with the pulse option (was not sure but just confirmed by testing and blinding myself).

The hope one (mine at least) doesn't pulse but does flash. And it has 4 levels of brightness, I rarely use the brightest one.

Gym is quite a bright chap so finds in quite easy
