Hello ladies and gents, the time has come for me to wave goodbye to my first ever road bike.
I originally got her as a venture into road cycling, its safe to say she got me hooked and I eventually moved on to a new bike. She stayed true to me, ignored the jealousy she felt when she saw me reaching for the new girl instead of her on a sunny Sunday morn and became a trusty commuter.
Now there isn't much point telling a lie, this bike is not in good condition cosmetically. I wasn't when I purchased it (in fact, it wasn't in good mechanical condition then either ), shes scratched, has decals pealing in a few places, rubbed cranks, a strange white mark on the fork and a few dents from stones (all of which are show in photos.) but she is in full working order.
The bike is mechanically sound, with impressive shifting, responsive steering and a bottom bracket that's not yet seen 150 miles. The only thing I'd look at replacing in the near future are the brakes - the front one isn't great, the rear one is fine mind you. New pads might be in order as well.
The headset has rust on the outside, but is spotless on the inside. Again, cosmetic - Not mechanically an issue!
There we have it, the honest truth, not sugar coated at all. If you're after a lovely clean frame to get you into road cycling I'd look else where. If your after a bloody hard worker who will put a smile on your face, then perhaps consider this?
The bike is a mismatch of bits.
6061 Aluminium frame
It has Sora shifters, Sora front Mech
Unbranded cranks and chainrings, I believe its the standard jobby that originally came with this bike.
Ultegra rear mech (less than 500 miles old.)
Tiagra rear cassett (less than 500 miles old.)
KMC chain (again, less than 500 miles old.)
Unbranded front brake
105 rear brake
Easton stem (got rid of the steel monstrosity that was on the bike originally!)
Madison flux saddle (essentially a charge spoon without the bling colour!)
Shimano RS20 wheel (rear is just out of true, nothing a decent eye and a spoke key cant deal with. These wheels have done less than 300 miles since brand new!)
Bontreger and spesh tires
And Shimano M540 pedals.
The bike weighs around 12kg. That was including my caravan of a saddle bag and a half a drink so I think it will be around the 11kg mark naked?
Like I said, this bike isn't in good cosmetic nick so I'm not expecting a whole lot of money for her.
Having said that, the wheels alone recently went on bikeradar for £80, so I think a price around £120 picked up is fair enough?
I am flexible on price, but baring in mind the price of the wheels and that one of these bikes also went on bikeradar for £150 last week I think I'm asking a fair price.
Hit me with an offer, worst I can do is say no
I live in North Wales, on Anglesey. About 10 mins drive off the A55 so not to hard to find.
I would love to post but as it stands I dont have a box to put it in, I'll pop down the LBS soon and see if they can give a helping hand. If they can postage would be around another £22 on top of that.
Thats it, anything I've forgotten will be added instantly as I remember.
She isn't a looker up close, but if you can look past the marks she is a pretty lovely bike!
She got me addicted to cycling, she got me up some bloody tough climbs and I'm actually pretty relucatant to sell her. Certainly wont be happy to see her go! But if she can get someone else into this cycling lark then I'll be chuffed!
feel free to contact me either in a reply or a personal message with questions.
Plenty of photos if you follow the link (the camera is also for sale if anyone wants it )
