A solar storm is predicted to hit the earth tomorrow, Wednesday. Could provide some spectacular sights in the north of the U.K. Maybe not along ‘Day of the Triffids’ lines but nonetheless will provide an interesting sight.

That'll be about the 50th* one this year

It'll also be cloudy, just like every other time

*possibly a slight exaggeration

I get alerts from the Aurora Watch app occasionally, set to tell me about anything 'Amber' or above, which is the lowest alert level that is likely to show up where I am, with the best conditions. Of course these alerts are reactive, not forecasts, and often arrive in the middle of the day or on cloudy nights. I've yet to see any aurora here (and only once before, from an aeroplane flying from Canada to UK). Off to Iceland in February though, so fingers crossed.

There's been a few, none have produced any significant aurora sightings in the UK so far, and https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/3-day-forecast isn't looking all that interesting currently, although keep an eye on https://www.youtube.com/c/TamithaSkov/ as she usually produces a video when something is happening.

there an aurora watch FB group which delivers some wonderful photos, mostly from Canada. Always seems to be cloudy over the UK when anything significant happens. The one linked to in the OP is reportedly 'weak' so it must be a slow news day for LiveScience
