As title suggests i was royally soaked on this mornings ride by a bellend in an old Daihatsu/Suzuki 4wd. He swerved into a large puddle that covered most of his lane as soon as he spotted me. I just had time to put my head down before a curtain of water got me good and proper. The one saving grace was that I had put too many layers on and was starting to overheat so it ended up being a bit of a blessing. Still would have liked to have booted him squarely in the nuts just to even things up..

It's a highways offence I believe. Report it, even if you don't have the reg. could be a local twat with a history.

Sounds like a total knob. As others have said keep an eye out for him and get his registration if you can, or better still use the experience to get a helmet cam so you can give the police evidence on a plate if needed.

I had that happen to me once, but in completely unavoidable circumstances rather than deliberate.

A lovely summer evening when I set off from work to home, the sky darkened within a few miles and soon torrents of rain piled down, but it was a warm evening so not too bad other then being drenched. I reached a junction on a country road and a car came round the corner where a huge puddle had gathered, with another car coming the opposite way. I saw the driver mouth "oh shoot" but he had no option but to carry on, and sent a wave of water over my head. He stopped as soon as he could, and shouted back to ask if I was okay and to say sorry. I was chuckling and carried on my way after some pleasantries.

Yeah a camera would be good here, if it's intentional the cops will probably take it seriously, probably more seriously than a close pass for whatever reason.

I once saw someone soak a load of school kids on purpose, I had my camera on but it failed to pick up the reg unfortunately.

I have had a driver cautioned for this after using head cam footage

There have also been cases where one person failed a driving test for splashing a pedestrian by driving through a puddle, and another where the driver was fined and had points

I think the most stupid and ridiculous one was the girl from Plymouth who put the video on YouTube and FAceBook where it was seen by Police, I can't find an outcome though, her defence was that the kids "had asked her to splash them"

Splashing a cyclist would be careless/dangerous driving the water could easily cause them to come off.

I got well and truly soaked by a half-wit just the other day. It was lashing down so I was already pretty wet but there was lots of mud and crap mixed with the splashing. Fast road too so no way I could catch him/her. It's a separate cycle path next to the road and I've had it happen to me there before. I went home on the road to avoid it happening again.
Normally I always try to put me between the idiot and the puddle and if that means ignoring the cycle path so be it!

We have a junction that floods

Join traffic, signal your intention to move out around the puddle and most traffic is fine

Then you get the muppet who tries to undertake through the puddle
