This morning I commuted to work as usual, no issues, 16.4mph average. Showered, changed, did my emails etc. About half an hour later I started coughing. It didn't feel right and then about 15 mins later I started coughing up blood. I understand that this isn't a good thing. Apart from a niggly cough it now seems to have passed and I have a GP appointment for 3.30 this afternoon (who says the NHS doesn't work).

The question is, proportionately, what are the chances of this being something not to worry about and I'll be able to go cycling as planned tomorrow?

Don't listen to anyone on here when it comes to health issues like that.... in fact any health issues.

Sincerely hope it's all ok.

I'm fairly sure it is. Had a b*****ing from my boss who I told as I'll be leaving early today. It wasn't about leaving early, he wants me to rest up more following the achilles issues and now this.

Will see what GP says this afternoon. Whitstable may be a no-go.

This is what you get for starting waving threads. But seriously, hope it's just lots of coughing irritating the throat, take it easy, listen to the GP. They'll want to know about the blood, how much, colour, etc.

Hope it's just a scare.

I would imagine your GP may well send you for more tests depending on the history they take, probably precautionary as you are generally fit and healthy. If you were an overweight smoker you might have cause to be worried but probably not in your case.

XRays taken, antibiotics received. Initial thoughts are a chest infection spotted very early as I hadn't started to actually feel ill until after I was coughing up blood (feel like s***e now though). Doc said if it wasn't for the blood she would probably have left it a couple of days to determine if it was viral as the antibiotics would be no use against that.

Oh well. The 65 miler I had planned for tomorrow has become an afternoon on the sun lounger (I think, the antibiotics bizarrely say avoid direct sunlight and don't use sunbeds?????) and the ride to Whitstable on Saturday will regretfully be without me.
