so close to my year goal...

at the beginning of the year I set a goal to beat last years mileage which was 216.6 miles.

due to health problems and weather I was unable to get out on the bike till about mid June and then mid July got a road bike and since I now have to send the bike back for a refund, hope I can get it sorted and get another bike before the bad weather kicks in.

I have done 206.07, so only 10.53 miles remain. it is so frustrating being so close and not able to complete the goal yet.

I know this mileage is small compared to some of you

Well done so far Terry, but don't fret there is loads of time to reach your target before the end of Dec. The weather will start to cool down a bit over the next few weeks but autumn is surprisingly dry, probably drier than Jul & Aug have been this year. Put some more layers on and keep on riding.

Just 5 more 20 mile rides and you can break through 300 miles, then you are going to feel good about yourself!

Well done Terry :bravo: its 4 or 5 times the national average which is 41miles or there abouts.

Yes, well done Terry! I'm sure there's plenty cycling left this year to smash last years' record too

Is the national average really only 41 miles per year? I'm shocked, and that probably means that everyone here on these boards is above average  Four weeks in and I've just managed my goal of commuting 3 times a week (that's 86 miles in 3 days) – and I'm looking forward to another early morning 15-20 miles tomorrow having had a day off 2 wheels today

Its a wee bit out of date now but the 2009 National Transport Survey said the national average had risen from 43 to a massive 46 miles

On average in 2009, people made 16 stages2 by bicycle compared to 19 per person per year in 1995/97. However, distance travelled by bicycle has increased 6% from 43 to 46 miles per person per year during this period. Cycling accounted for 2% of trips of less than 5 miles in 2009. Frequency of bicycle use has remained fairly stable over time since 1998/00. In 2009, 14% of respondents said they ride a bicycle at least once a week and a further 9% said they did so at least once a month. 68% said they use a bicycle less than once a year or never.

with how many people i see commute on bike every day now compared with just 12 months ago i would guess those stats will be more than a wee bit out of date

seems a hell of a lot of people are being priced out of their cars
