Slipping seatpost

After realising I'm not getting taller I put some insulating tape round my seatpost to mark the position and it seems to be slowly sinking during my rides. I've got my quick release almost too tight to close the lever - is there anything else I could be overlooking? This was the stock post that came with the bike.

the insulating tape will slip off it's glue, so to speak.

if you are having to use tape or a shim to keep the seatpost tight, the seatpost is the wrong size…

You could try making a thin shim from a coke can.

Is this a common problem? Or is there something wrong with my bike? Tonight after stopping every 5 minutes to re-raise my seat, I tightened the QR until I realised I'd bent it out of shape. But still slipping with copper grease on. Feels like I shouldn't need to try cobbling a shim on a bike only a few months old!

This will sound odd - but it's cheaper than carbon assembly paste, especially so if you've a family member who uses it and won't object to letting you 'borrow' it.
Hair Spray on the seat post, before you insert it.

Not used myself, but was reminded of it by someone the other day, whilst discussing what to do with my allen-bolt seat post clamp - on which I had stripped the thread :cursing:
