Hello All,

I have got to say that Slime inner tubes work. I was riding my Single Speed today, at about 12 miles I heard the dreaded ssssszzzzzz from my rear wheel for about 1 second and got off to examine low and behold I had slime everywhere but no flat. Big Smile all round

That is until you come to remove the inner tube from the tyre, bet you won't be smiling then

I've used slime tubes and had a couple of punctures with them in the not too distant past and yes they do work - my 100psi tubes stayed up to about 80psi after two punctures. There were no problems at all when I removed the tubes from the tyres, they were as clean as a whistle inside.

I gave up with this stuff. I had four punctures in my tyres despite having slime anti-puncture ribbon in them. Then I bought an aerosol can of the stuff. One November 5 on my way home I had a puncture on the B2B Railway Path. You have to remove the inner part of the valve- ever tried it in the dark with cold hands?. Anyway, managed to spary the stuff in, spent ages trying to get the valve back together. Pumped up the tyre and got about 200 yards along path when it went down again. I ended up walking the rest of the way home with fireworks exploding around.

The conclusion: Slime is rubbish  . Don't bother with it, just tend to punctures in the usual way as it's quicker and will save time. Better still, just carry a spare inner tube as they are often cheaper than this muck  . Forget the spray slime as you'll end up with more of it on you than the inside of the tyre.

Now I ride on 100psi schwalbe marathons - virtually indestructable.
