Slick Tyres on Hybrid

I currently have Conti Travel Contacts on my hybrid 700 x 35. These proved great in terms of P* protection when I was commuting on roads / gravel cycle paths. Now I dont commute and the tyres are showing signs of wear so would like to replace them.

Most of my riding is now in the evening on the roads, both town and country so I was thinking of upgrading to some road type tyres. Main factor being decent puncture protection. Rolling resistance would also be considered.

So, 1. Can I fit a set of 'slick' tryes on the hybrid? What sort of sizes should I be looking at.

2. Any suggestions for budget tyres for the above? Looking to spend no more than £40 on the set if I can get away with it.

1) Yes, I looked at 700x28's when I did the same thing - although it depends on your rim size.
2) I always go for Schwalbe's that are pretty puncture proof. I managed to get a set of Marathons for £40 for a pair. Go for the wired ones as they're cheaper. You can get the Marathon+ version from here (http://www.spacycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m2b0s142p2829) for £20 as long as you don't mind "London" on it.

I fitted Vittoria Randonneur City 28s to my hybrid which is used 95% on road, they will do a bit of light off roading but I wouldn't take them through mud! I like them and they are a LOT lighter than the Marathon Plus that my wife has on hers.

They are about £15 a tyre and come in various sizes that would fit your rims.

Bontrager hard case lite, really is a no brainer and well within budget.

I have had mine on four years and they haven't been off the rims.

The 20 denotes the interior width of the rim. The thinner the rim, the thinner the tyre it's designed for. I would be wary going below 28mm tyres on a 20-622 rim.

Have a look at the table towards the bottom of this page: -

Ordered some 700 x 28 bontrager hardcases (they were the cheapest highly rate) from JE James with some Schwalbe tubes. Should be here tomorrow. Thanks for the help!

I bought a Claud Butler Legend after 20 + years away from cycling
Live on the towpath so hybrid seemed a good idea. Tyres are ok but I too want to move eventually to narrower tyres
Will have to measure the rims. Have had no punctures since. Not sure I want to pay a lot.
