Just got back from a spin and found a freshly tarmaced single lane road with nice climb and it was great lasted at least half a mile. I resisted the urge to come back down it I am not too keen on down hills at the moment still getting to grips with things. Not really worried about a face full of hedge but really dont want to hurt my new bike
Some head council guy must live up that road because they aint keen on road surfaces around here. My dentures feel like they are going to disintergrate most the time

I found a nice smooth bit of tarmac the other day also, about two weeks later the council gritted it.....enjoy your smooth ride while you can, hopefully they wont spoil it for you..

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
Lane nearby was completely resurfaced - smooth new tarmac - beautiful, some months ago, for no apparent reason as it was little used, good condition, pothole free - far better than most roads around here. It forms part of a convenient 4 mile loop around the village and I looked forward to riding over this particular stretch - anyway, last week it was 'top dressed', along with the adjoining lanes. I believe it was originally resurfaced in error and the top dressing has been carried out to hide the fact, and to save the highways department embarrasment .

They resurfaced all the back roads round here a couple months all round my 10 mile coast ride. Unfortunately they then dumped gravel all over it so it was like riding unmade roads

They seem to have been along recently and swept off or rolled in the stones so it's better, but I preferred it before they put the stones down at all.

I'd one of my semi-regular routes the other day - Norwich to Reepham. Decided to come back through the Marriots Way. An old disused railway path re-assigned as a cycle track. It's mud and dirt all the way. Not suitable for road bikes but my hybrid lapped it up. Flat, fast, tree lined and highly enjoyable. Oh and no cars for 11 miles
