They are based on the Fabia, I've had 3 of those, all good reliable cars. The Roomster looks a bit odd but has loads of rear space and removable rear seats.

Best resource about them, and Skodas in general is here: www.briskoda.net

If I had the money, I would have one in a heartbeat. Great cars.
I had one as a hire car for a week and loved it to bits.

IMO, the only engine to avoid is the 1.2 HTP as it's rather underpowered for something that can carry a lot of stuff. The newer 1.6 TDI (90bhp or 105bhp) or the 1.2 TSI (85bhp or 105bhp) are leagues better.

+1 for it here too

We test-drove one (had it as a courtesy car) whilst our Octavia estate (1.6Tdi) was being serviced at the main-dealer

Would I have one??, not sure, I'd prefer a Yeti, but I really want a Superb estate next time (Tdi, 140BHP, 6-speed, 4x4 hopefully!!)

We've got a Fabia and it's great,
We had a first generation Fabia, as a 1.4Mpi estate ('03 plate') , still maintain that it's the best small car I've ever driven!!
Far better than the contemporary Polo & Fiesta!

I ran a 1.2 htp 69 bhp for a couple of years as a dog wagon. No problems, very comfy, suprisingly enjoyable to drive but very low geared. We ordered a 105 tsi as its replacement but due to panoramic roof supply problems early 2013 we ended up with an Octy. The only issue with the roomster was because swmbo is on the shorter side she found the B pillar a little wide at the base. Would have another in a heartbeat especially with the cycle holder in the boot.

We've got a Fabia and it's great, but we're going down to one car and need something more versatile. I drove one today and am impressed. It ticks a lot of boxes.
That will do, I prefer the diesel but they are a quality motor.

Nice. My last Fabia had the 105 TSI, and it was a revelation! it had just been introduced and there were very few cars around with that engine fitted, so I never had a chance to test drive it. Need not have worried, it had loads of punch and would haul loads without even thinking about it. 55mpg economy was just the icing on the cake! I'd definately have another one.

We (well the wife's) are on our second now. Mainly because, with the internal cycle carrier, we can transport 3 bikes in comfort. There is loads of room, and it all sits on a compact platform. And it can carry loads of luggage if packaged well.
The first was a '56 plate 1.9 Roomster 3. Bit noisy, but good specs. But. The gearbox disintegrated at 60k miles, and there were a few other problems too. Typical VW weak points really. Good mpg though, at around 55mpg.
So we bought a new one last year, with a 5 year warranty this time. 1.6TDi SE Plus I think. The face-lifted model rides a lot better, and the engine a lot quieter. But a year old model is really good value, as they drop in value quickly. mpg is slightly worse, but a nice smooth diesel. The 1.4 TSi (105 bhp?) is supposed to be the best engine through. I would not recommend a lower power engine. Once loaded up they can be sluggish.
Apart from that, spec is good. Panoramic roof makes an airy cabin. Radio has very good sound quality. And is an easy drive, good on motorway, although the seat squabs are shallow if you are a tall driver. Simple to park and manoeuvre. They are quite under-rated due to the badge and looks. And Skoda service is very good. I . think that they are great for cyclists - not many cars have an internal bike rack that is also simple to use.

Drive a 1.2 in work and with my limited knowledge of cars it seems pretty good. Shifts when you put the foot down, nice options for seating and a big glass roof, front of the cars a bit cramped though. Toys and stereo is basic, but guess that can be upgraded. Pretty good with fuel consumption.... I'd have one
