Some time ago the paddle type shifter to move the front mech to big ring snapped off, its the campag xenon ones
No real problem as London doesn't call for small ring but at some point I'm going to press the button to shift to small ring and be stuck in it

I haven't even though about this, I thought I'd just ask, what's the zero budget way to 'fix this' even if that means leaving the front mech set to big ring regardless of clumsy hand pressing the shift button

and would a replace mean the whole unit and would it have to be campag 10 speed given it's the front mech?

There isn't a way to fix it, unless you cut off the inner paddle off the campag shifters. Messy job, and it might just downshift as you cut t, so will need a way to shift it back up.

theres always a cheap fix it all depends on if your worried about the look, depending on where its broken you could drill a small 4mm hole threw the bit that's left then using a thin strip of metal (like the bits you get with new car stereo with holes along it ) and a small bolt then wrap with gaffer tape to feel and look better another way would be get some quick steel and drill a couple of holes in the bit of leaver thats left then pushing the quick steel into the holes to help it grip you can then mould the quick steel like plasticine to get the right shape then leave to dry and you have a strong leaver.
as i say if you have want to and your not overly concerned with the finished look then it would be quite easy to fix

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Remove front mech and buy chainring washers so you only have your big ring up front set without the small ring at the right distance from the BB for the chain line?

there's barely a stump and the main part went ping into the ditch as I boomed up the hill

enough an oik like me suspected the calble was needed, really Colin!

looks like the limit screw then, as I lazily suspected, thanks all
