I just finished a 47 mile charity ride - yay! - and all went well except for a problem which has now happened 4 or 5 times. Sometimes when I pull away the force on the cassette means that side of the axle slips forward in the dropout to the point that the tyre is rubbing on the lefthand chainstay- not good! This despite me putting as much force as I can on the skewer while still allowing me to close the lever without resorting to a pair of molegrips.

The bike is a steel framed 80s tourer, and previously had nutted wheels. The skewers came with a pair of ambrosio zenith hubs, and are the external cam type which Sheldon has such a downer on. The nut at each end of the skewer is serrated and aluminium. Could this be fixed by replacing the skewer with one with a serrated steel insert like those on the Shimano hubs on my other bike? And if so, can anyone point me to a pair that have this and don't cost the earth? The descriptions of most skewers seem to talk about weight and very little else.

just take a hammer and a nail ( or a punch or something ) and roughen the inside of the right fork-end where the axel sits
