My bum feels pretty much ok when riding but for a few days after a ride my sit bones feel pretty sore.

I don't think my saddle is too narrow as my perineum etc deso not get sore.

I don't think it is too wide as I get no thing chafing.

Is this just a case of waiting for things to toughen up down there? Only done about 170 miles since I got the bike.

Should I try a new saddle? It's not a problem to change the stock Giant saddle but I'd hate to get involved in a multi-saddle epic.

I don't think 170 miles is far enough for your bum and saddle to get to know each other, I have a stock saddle on my T3 and after 300 miles we are getting on much better!^_^

It took me more than one saddle, and a good deal more than your 170 miles to get used to my new Boardman. At first I found it unrideable on the standard saddle, so bought a s/h Charge Spoon off ebay. This was a little better, but not by very much, so I bought another s/h saddle, this one a Selle San Remo, gel padded. This was much better, and I did about 250 miles on this. As an experiment, I then put the original Boardman saddle back on, and found that I could now ride good distances on this without discomfort. It seems to me that using the 'gentlemanly' saddle for a good while on my TTT's (tail toughening tours) has had the necessary effect and made my cheeky bits more resilient, sufficient to accept the 'sporting' saddle.

Worth a try.

Bit the bullet and went and had a fitting for a Bontrager Affinity - ended up with the R model in Medium (yellow dot) and it is much more comfy straight away.

The Bontrager looks a bit more like the old Selle Turbomatic I had way back on a Pace MTB. I used to like that saddle.

The stock Giant saddle was too fat at the back and didn't curve in quick enough front to rear if that makes sense.

Feels like I am sitting still on the new saddle as opposed to sliding forward on the old one..

My ride today was the first since I have had the bike where my sit bones are not sore afterwards!
