The Singing Ringing Tree was mentioned on the Film thread just found this 10 minute best of on you tube Singing Tree

Its still as creepy as ever and they showed this to Children.

I dimly remember that.....was it of East German origin?

Yeah it freaked me out, it was class, it went deep. There was a great big bear of inscrutable nature and an evil cackling dwarf that poked his head round, and everything froze up and went end of everything. I think it was Czech.

It was the ambiguities of what was good and what was evil that got me.

I'll bet you it was some kind of subversive metaphor about communism. There was a thing about it on Radio 4 years ago.
