Hi guys,

As I have recently been back to cycling after many years and bought a new road bike in may, I was wondering what I should be doing now to maintain my bike. Ni have checked the gears and brake cables, lubricated the chain, but I am lost as too what else to do. Could also know what to do on specialised mountain bike that has been in garage for nearly 10 years. Thanks.

Making sure the tyres are at a decent psi is a good idea

Check drive train for wear (chain stretch, wear on cassette and chain rings), gear indexing, play in headset, play in bottom bracket, condition and wear of tyres, wear in brakes, play in hubs...the list is endless......

Find a good bike shop who can service your bikes properly and are willing to talk you through things so you learn as you go.
In time you may decide to do some things yourself while relying on your local shop to take on the more involved jobs.
Consider how much it costs to fit a new cassette against the cost of the tools needed if you decide to do it yourself, bearing in mind it may be a very rare job.
