Can anyone recommend a simple HRM watch that doesn't keep bleeping at set intervals as I am riding? Just silent with maybe high and low alarms will suffice. Thanks.

Do you ride with a Garmin or similar head unit ? - if so a £25 chest strap from Amazon will do the trick.
