Hi all,

Well my shoes arrived today so I have just swapped my pedals ove and have been practising getting the cleats in and out. Not too bad actually.

What I was wondering though, is it possible to balance the pedals (Shimano 105 5700SPD-SL) so that they sit flat, so it's easier to get your cleats in ?

I notice there is what looks like a dial on the pedal, near the crank arm, but seems pretty stiff, so didn't want to turn anything without knowing.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Rich.

WOW! isn't it amazing what happens when you put your glasses on!!

It actually says tighten on the part I was looking at!! DOH!!

Sorry one and all, resolved!!

EXtending the thread....

Hold on. The little allen screw at the back simply tightens the cleat to make it easier/harder to clip-in/clip-out. It does nothing to help make the platform remain horizontal.

On the road though, it's easier to clip in if the pedal remains vertical as you can just hook in with a forward movement, then press down. As the pedals are a little back heavy, this will happen naturally, especially after a little use when it's worn in, so the pedals will usually be in the same position.

As toller said, doing that will actually make it harder to get in. The whole idea of the pedal sitting vertical is so that you can hook the top of the cleat into the hole and the push down to fix it in. That would not be possible if the pedal was horizontal.
